Steaming hay or haylage not only reduces respirable dust and kills harmful microorganisms, but it also turns ‘poor sections’ of the bale to ‘palatable sections’. As a result, a larger proportion of large bales are eaten when steamed. Wastage is significantly reduced. The haygain steamer cost is typically paid back in twelve months from date of purchase when feeding 2 horses.
