We took delivery of an HG1000 HAYGAIN hay steamer in late February 2010, prior to which we had been wetting our hay before it was fed. March 2010 was the best month the yard has ever had with 8 winners!! We have also found that horses with irritating "dry" coughs stopped coughing within 3 days of being fed the HAYGAIN steamed hay. Propress Equine have always been very prompt and efficient and were quick to deal with any teething problems we may have had in setting up and learning how to use the hay steamer.Chris Bealby

It is very reassuring feeding our horses their hay, fresh and warm from the Haygain steamer, it looks and smells delicious and you are safe in the knowledge it is completely clean with no harmful dust or spoors in it. The horses all love it and gobble it up and touch wood they don't cough. I have 28 horses in now and steam about 6 bales a day, if we ever get a lot bigger, I would certainly invest in another steamer.Rose Dobbin, National Hunt Trainer

Since using the HAYGAIN-steamed hay, my horses have been clean winded and running well. There is very little waste; even the fussy ones enjoy it. The HAYGAIN is a good investment; it saves on having to scope and medicate the horses as often, so pays for itself soon enough.Andrew Boxhall

We have been using the naturally steamed hay from the HAYGAIN hay steamer on our post-operative colic cases, which is proving very useful in the recuperation and assisting in return to feeding. It is highly palatable for horses that may be slow to eat following surgery and while on extended time indoors. The HAYGAIN steamed hay is also a welcomed feed for owners of horses prone to laminitis, as they now can feed a succulent forage, without the worry of giving too much protein. The increased palatability also enables a hay of lower nutritional quality to be fed to these horses.
We have also found the HAYGAIN steamed hay is the ideal roughage for horses that have respiratory problems. Steaming eliminates all dust and fungal spores, while leaving the nutritional value of the hay intact. This means that you can ensure your hay is not a contributory factor in any respiratory allergy or airway sensitivity. We reccommend that owners with horses showing signs of allergies steam their hay in this unique way as a way of making sure their hay is not causing any stress on the horses' respiratory system. We would see HAYGAIN hay steamers as a valuable tool in preventing breathing problems in horses.
The HAYGAIN hay steamers are a robust and very effective steamer and are a welcomed installation at Troytown Equine Hospital.

'Would just like to say how pleased we are with our steamer. It is brilliant. We have been able to use all our old hay this year as it was fine, but dusty. After steaming - no dust. Horses love it and eat every last scrap. Even my old boy who will have large amounts of discharge with even a handful of unsoaked hay has been discharge free.Sue Howis

My new HAYGAIN works like a charm - I am absolutely delighted. My vet suggested that I really needed one rather than the progressive levels of medication my Rocky Mountain horse was requiring. I was wetting hay thoroughly and dreading another winter of this process especially since only very thorough wetting made any difference. Gyp had several violent asthma attacks this past summer. He is a different horse since I started feeding HAYGAIN steamed hay. Many, many thanks from me and Gyp! I am 78 years old, care for my 3 horses myself, and hope to continue this and riding until I am at least 85. Now this seems a much more realistic goal and I am very happy. I will encourage lots of horse friends to come and see my new HAYGAIN systemElizabeth Hines

In May of 2010, my 10 year old quarter horse gelding, Handy, suffered a terrible respiratory infection when the mold count in our area went to record highs. He was diagnosed with COPD. He was already being housed outside and attempts were made to keep him dust-free as possible, but he was still having regular difficulty with his breathing. I thought I might lose him. My vet recommended wetting his hay, but that didn't seem to help. I began doing research on causes and cures for COPD and learned that a major irritant can be mold and contaminants in hay, even when dampened, soaked, or scattered. I read about steaming hay and began looking at steamers. It was then that I came across the HAYGAIN website. After looking at several hay steamers, I settled on the HAYGAIN half bale steamer because of its size and design. I ordered one and it arrived within a few days. It was easy to set up, and I began to use it immediately. Because I board my horse and someone else feeds, I set it on a timer to have steamed hay ready for feeding time. I am happy to report that since using the HAYGAIN steamer, my horse has had very few episodes and the episodes he has had I believe were from other airborne molds rather than his hay. Keeping COPD under control is not as simple as keeping his hay steamed and does require some medicine and supplements, but it certainly has reduced the episodes significantly. One time he was given some "dry" hay by accident and by that evening his nose was running and he had a cough. He went right back onto the steamed hay and the symptoms subsided by morning. The HAYGAIN steamer is a major factor in helping to keep Handy healthy and able to move on down the trail!Victoria Gray

Thank you so much for the efficient service in replacing my steamer and the pipe! The girls at Burghley were helpful and friendly and my new machine arrived the very next day. Thank you again.Julia Dale

This product is very robust, easy to use and very efficient. The hay is palatable and keeps its quality so we don't need to feed as much hard feed. Fussy eaters enjoy their hay far more steamed than soaked.Vanessa Briggs

I bought the half bale hay steamer for my mare who has COPD and was particularly bad this year with a persistent cough and had lost condition. I was really worried about her but the support and advice I got from HAYGAIN was really good. Since having the HAYGAIN the coughing has stopped completely and after just a couple of months her condition is definitely better already. I went on a 15 mile fun ride the other day, something she couldn't have done before and she didn't cough once. I feel much better about feeding her hay now, it is a weight off my mind, it smells lovely and the service I have received has been great!Amy Evans

The investment has paid off! We are totally satisfied with the Hay Steamer. After a few days we recognized a reduction in the horse's allergy. In the meanwhile I can work the horse quite well, which was not possible before the purchase of the HAYGAIN .
We are very grateful for this great development and recommend HAYGAIN especially for horses showing allergic reactions to dusty hay.Sybille and Jurgen Mulle

I recently had the use of a HAYGAIN steamer HG-1000 for my private yard where I have 5 dressage horses. This model of steamer was perfect for my use as it could steam a whole bale at a time and reduced the yard management time down dramatically. I also found that it was equally as good at just steaming two large hay nets if that was all I required. I have previously used other hay steamers and although they have helped my horses the HAYGAIN steamer eliminated all little stable coughs that my horse where still getting. I found this of great benefit to their training and overall performance, not to mention the peace of mind that my horses were having safe hay to eat. I can't thank HAYGAIN enough and highly recommend their product to any other equine ownerMarcelle Ward
