Purpose-built steam chest

The thermally efficient steam chest maintains the steam volume and high temperature to ensure that the respirable particles, fungal spores, bacteria and mites in the forage are eliminated. This ensures the forage is cleaner, more palatable and maintains its nutritional value.

Unique spike manifold design

The patented configuration of the manifolds pushes steam into the hay, distributing it evenly throughout the unit and allowing temperatures in excess of 100°C / 212ºF to be reached. The aluminium plates, which hold the spikes, accumulate more heat under the bale to assist with raising the temperature inside the hay chest, optimising its efficiency. Perforated spikes force steam from the centre of the hay outwards, ensuring total steam absorption.

Purifying your forage in 5 simple steps:

Use funnel and watering can provided to fill the Steam Generator until water is visible in Filler Spout.

Place bale or loose hay over Steam Manifolds and push down firmly so Manifold Spikes pierce hay to their full length. Lower Lid and fasten Catches.

Push down green On/Off Button located on top of Steam Generator.

Allow hay to steam for at least 60 minutes and Lid Thermometer reads in green band above 80°C for at least 10 minutes. Consecutive steam cycles should be for at least 45 minutes.

Switch ‘off’ by pressing green On/Off Button. Undo Catches and open Hay Chest Lid. Caution: steam is hot. Remove hay and feed immediately or within 24 hours.

Cleaning and maintenance 

It is necessary to rinse the steam generator regularly and de-scale it once a month, or at least once every two months.

The frequency of de-scaling required is dependent on how hard the water is in your area and how often you use your Haygain steamer.

The hay container should be kept clear of hay and haylage debris and washed out regularly.
